Chasing the Northern Light: My Journey to Alaska from Seattle

Sled Dogs, Space Needle, and One Lost Shoe: Our Adventure from Seattle to Alaska and Back

This was such a difficult blog to write. This summer I set sail with Teri, Dana, and Lily on a cruise to Alaska setting sail from Seattle that promised glaciers, laughter, and a few unforgettable surprises. Spoiler alert: it delivered all three -- and then some.

Seattle: Where it all began

Our Adventure kicked off with a flight from Burbank to Seattle for only $76 each way. Such a deal. We arrived in Seattle, where the skyline sparkles even when the clouds roll in. Of course, we couldn't leave without going to the top of the Space Needle even though I am terrified of heights. We could see Elliot Bay it was amazing. We even got these awesome photos.

Sailing North: Into Glacier Country

Once aboard the cruise ship, time seemed to stretch and shimmer like the sea itself. We spent our mornings wrapped in blankets on the deck, watching the mist lift off the ocean. By afternoon, we were already planning our next adventures — and dreaming of Alaskan puppies.

Alaska: Where the Wild Things Wag

One of the highlights? Meeting sled dog puppies in Alaska! The moment we arrived, we were greeted by an explosion of fur, paws, and happy yips. These future champions were pure energy and snuggles, tumbling over each other in excitement. We got to learn how mushers train them and even hold the tiniest ones — who were clearly born to run but also very good at melting hearts.

A Shoe, A Bike Cart, and A Lot of Laughing

Somewhere between ports, adventure found us again — this time in the form of a bike cart ride. Picture it: the wind in our faces, laughter echoing down the path… and then one of my shoes decided to abandon ship. I watched it bounce away in slow motion, rolling to freedom while Teri and Dana could barely breathe from laughing. Lily tried to steer while giggling uncontrollably, and somehow, we made it back with one less shoe but a hundred more memories.

A Touch of British Charm

On our way home, our cruise stopped in Victoria, British Columbia, and I instantly fell in love with its charm. The flowers at the Inner Harbour were bursting with color, and the air smelled faintly of the sea and tea shops. We strolled through the gardens, admired the historic architecture, and enjoyed one last round of laughs before sailing back toward Seattle.

Homeward Bound

By the time we reached Seattle again, my camera was full, my hair was salty, and my heart was completely full. The trip had everything — stunning views, adorable puppies, unexpected adventures, and the best kind of company.

Because when you’re traveling with friends who can turn a lost shoe into a running joke, every moment becomes unforgettable.
